I was incredibly honoured to be asked by Voqueer to be a part of their, ‘Waacking’ dance workshop at Theatre Sevelin 36 in Lausanne.

‘Waacking’ is a Disco era dance style born from Afro-Latinx queer people and closely linked to the popular dance of ‘Vogueing’. After a consultation with Tanya of Voqueer, Geraladine and Gabriel – the dance instructors, I was able to get a feel for the type of music to bring to this unique setting.

I started my set with ‘Love Hangover’ by Diana Ross – namely because when researching Waacking, I came across a video of Diana performing the song live with her dancers, and which later proved to be one of the earliest televised performances of Waacking.

I then went through some disco classics, as well as into 80s Soul, ending my set with HipHop songs that had samples of Disco music.  This journey enabled the dancers to really get a feel for their new found movements with different tempos and styles.

It was such a fun event and I plan to sign up for Waacking dance classes in the near future!
