Joy Secret Bar is a speakeasy style cocktail bar located downstairs of the modern Peruvian restaurant Jules-Edouard in central Geneva.
When I arrived before my set, the restaurant was packed and busy, and once I had tasted the food I could understand why. It was absolutely delicious – so colourful and full of flavour. Quite literally “chefs kiss” and I can’t wait to eat there again! Downstairs at the bar, I was greeted by the kindest barman who was super attentive and knowledgable. I ordered a cosmopolitan (which is turning into my signature drink ever since I learned to make it at home!), and he made it exactly the way I like!
My DJ set started at 10pm and I played until 2:00 am, starting with a mix of oldskool disco classics and then I transitioned into Nu Disco and House. During the set I was approached at the booth by a lady who asked me to play some Latin music… (cue eye roll..🙄) It was her friend’s birthday and they were celebrating. Most DJs hate requests, especially when it is completely different to the style that they’ve been booked to play. For example in this instance, I, as in, Ms Joan, as in, Geneva’s premier Disco DJ was asked to bring my glamorous Disco Music and House to Joy Secret Bar. So for someone to ask for Reggaeton it is a bit weird – like, ‘girl can you not hear and see what we’re doing here?’ Lol! Anyway, I told her I would see what I could do. She didn’t know this but in a former life, I was an open format/all styles DJ! So once my set was done, I transitioned into another 30 minutes of Reggaeton music with some Bad Bunny, Shakira and classic Don Omar. What can I say, I was in a good mood and I thought I’d make the night extra special for them!
Overall, Joy Secret Bar was so much fun and a great atmosphere for me to DJ in! I think if you’re looking for a place in Geneva that offers a full night out experience – having dinner and then dancing in an intimate setting with great cocktails and good vibes, I’d recommend Joy Secret Bar – especially when I’m there of course! And on that note, I should let you know that I’ve even been invited back to play at Joy Secret Bar on Saturday 21 June 2025 for Fête de la Musique in Geneva.
